Rainbows vs. Planets

In our courting days, my boyfriend and I discovered that we shared the same great taste in music in every way except two...classical and hard rock. I preferred the former and he preferred the latter. We continuously tried to convince each other that one was better than the other until one day I proposed that we present each other with the "quintessential” arrangement in each genre and try to win each other over. He went first… He played a song from an obscure rock band called Rainbow and as it began with a very impressive build...I began to smile. As it continued to unfold...I began to laugh…by the end of the song I ecstatically declared myself to be the winner before I’d even played my song! The band he had chosen produced a rock version of Gustav Holst's, “Mars” from The Planets! He happened to use the same example for "brilliant rock music" that I had chosen to represent brilliant classical music…only my chosen artist had done it first…a long, long time before!!!! The amazing thing is that “of all the songs in all the world” we both chose the same one. Proving only that classical music bonds people together…one way or another!
